Mondelez Philippines, Inc. has partnered with Rise Against Hunger Philippines, an organization working to end hunger, improve food security and reduce food wastage. Together, the two organizations help bring Mondelez Philippines’ delicious and nutritious food products to families in danger of hunger.

In the Philippines, undernutrition is a big problem. According to the Food and Nutrition Research Institute, 31.2% of children aged 5-10 years old are underweight (2015). This means that almost a third of children do not get the right nutrition for their growing minds and bodies.

With this challenge in mind, Mondelez Philippines works to help provide access to fresh food to children in need. Most recently, it has partnered with Rise Against Hunger, an organization focused on helping end hunger, improve food security and reduce food wastage.

“Our initiatives include feeding programs for schools in locations nationwide, community food donations and the Good Food Grocer,” shares Jomar Fleras, Executive Director of Rise Against Hunger Philippines. “The Good Food Grocer is the first food bank social franchise in the Philippines.” A food bank is a place where stocks of food are supplied free to people in need.

“Located in Taguig City, we accept donations of food from companies and individuals. We then provide these to families in need. We also provide livelihood programs to develop food products, establish community gardens as a source of fresh food and provide nutrition education classes to help improve cooking and eating practices,” Fleras continues.

As a global food company, maker of the world’s favorite snacks like Tang powdered beverage, Mondelez Philippines is committed to the same cause as Rise Against Hunger. “We have similar goals of helping families and communities to receive good nutrition and avoid hunger,” explains Shanahan Chua, Head of Corporate and Government Affairs of Mondelez Philippines. “Together with Rise Against Hunger Philippines, we hope to extend our well-being efforts to more Filipino families and help address the issue of malnutrition. We are extremely excited about this partnership since it’s a great extension of our Joy Schools community program.” Since the start of the partnership between Mondelez Philippines and Rise Against Hunger, 3,400 children and 700 families have benefited from the initiative.

Mondelez Philippines also implements the Joy Schools program. Established in 2011, the program aims to provide a daily nutritious meal to undernourished public elementary students. To date, 4,500 children have benefited from a daily 9-month feeding program, helping improve their nutritional status, attendance in school and academic performance.

RCBC took part in the recent The Future of Finance, Philippines 2018 conference with the theme “Strong Economy and Vital Innovation for the Philippines”. Organized by The Asian Banker, the annual forum featured discussions on the opportunities and challenges in the local banking market, how to reach the unbanked through digital technology, and how to successfully usher the country into the new era of digital banking.

A set of global speakers and panelists, including RCBC first senior vice president and head of digital banking group Margarita Lopez, presented case studies and best practices among more than 200 bankers, financial services professionals, policymakers, investors, innovators, regulators, academics, local, and international business leaders.

During the panel discussion on the Future of Payments for Filipinos, Lopez talked about the RCBC ePiso. “We want to enable easy, secure and convenient electronic payments as part of their day-to-day habits and once we do that, we then become part of their everyday lives,” noted Lopez as she underscored the bank’s mission to become part of consumers’ activities and to enable them with access to digital payments through ePiso.

Earlier this year, RCBC introduced the country’s first-of-its-kind digital currency,ePiso, that provides a more secure, affordable, and efficient way to handle cash for daily transactions. With ePiso, the bank hopes to bring a sustainable economic network that would advance financial inclusion in the country. ePiso has been successfully test-launched to residents in Brgy. Poblacion in Muntinlupa City, farming communities in Bukidnon, and merchants in Bulacan.

Margarita Lopez talks about RCBC’s continued efforts towards financial inclusion through empowering consumers and local businesses with ePiso. She shared that Filipinos can quickly adapt to digital solutions, as she recounted the success of ePiso test launches where communities appreciated using the digitized currency and enjoyed cashless transactions with RCBC partner merchants in Muntinlupa City and Bulacan, and where farmers received loans and bought input supplies via ePiso in Bukidnon province.

Industry experts led the discussion on how to effectively drive the nation to a cash-lite economy. The panelists included (from left) The Asian Banker international resource director Richard Hartung, RCBC first senior vice president and digital banking group head Margarita Lopez, Development Bank of the Philippines head of branch banking sector and marketing group Antonio Maramag, USAID/E-PESO Activity chief of party Mamerto Tangonan, and Total System Services vice president and regional head of Asia, Middle East & Africa Malek Mroueh.

Through almost six decades of providing quality financial products and excellent client services, Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation (RCBC) has established its position as a trusted partner in the growth and success of Filipinos and its various business partners.

Today, the bank continues to strengthen its presence in the community, especially among the unbanked market, by developing accessible financial services to assist them in day-to-day transactions. To make this vision happen, RCBC supports the countrywide goal of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) to achieve financial inclusion.

As the bank believes in empowering every Filipino citizen to contribute to the nation’s transformation, it further strives to innovate its services to widen the range of financial services available to the underserved market. One innovation that RCBC has developed is the country’s first digitized cash, ePiso.

Paving the way for cashless transactions

In line with BSP’s “test and learn” approach, RCBC took a big move in developing the first-of-its-kind digital cash in the Philippines with ePiso. The bank worked closely with international firm eCurrency Mint as they ventured to digital fiat currency technology to design an efficient financial solution for Filipinos.

The RCBC ePiso is digitized money stored in a mobile wallet to enable safe, fast, and affordable payment option that will improve consumers’ daily activities and transactions. The Bank worked closely with BSP to ensure that ePiso has security features that will bring economic benefits and reduce safety risks for the users.

“We’re really glad to see that RCBC is taking an action towards our shared goal of financial inclusion. We believe that their ePis oproject can open opportunities for us to explore how having digital currency can help us achieve a sustainable inclusive ecosystem for the country,” said Mhel Plabasan, BSP core information technology specialist group head and deputy director.

Businesses and consumers can use ePiso to pay bills, purchase goods, and transfer money to other users with the RCBC ePiso mobile app. It is securely protected with a username and password so one can personally track their money and transactions.

A first try of the country’s digital currency

In May 12, the commercial bank successfully test-launched its ePiso to residents of Barangay Poblacion in Muntinlupa City. This was followed by a pilot run among farming communities in Valencia City in Bukidnon last May 17.

In cooperation with sari-sari store owners in Muntinlupa, RCBC held a digital pamilihan ng bayan where individuals and families experienced cashless transaction with their ePiso. With a QR code technology, they used the RCBC ePiso mobile app to scan the merchant’s code for easier purchases.

“The ePiso was greatly received by the community, with both sellers and consumers testifying about the convenient transactions using the product,” shared JR Guillergan, RCBC head of Digital Banking Group Strategic Initiatives.

Meanwhile, RCBC and Rizal Microbank made the move to make loan payments to its agri-clients easier by going digital with ePiso. Bukidnon farmers received their loan proceeds from the microbank through the ePiso mobile app and enjoyed purchasing farming supplies from RCBC’s partner retailers.

“Digital lending is one way that we can support our farmers in their livelihood. It cuts the costs of transportation and transaction fees when going to bank because now they can just open their ePiso app and see that their loans are already credited to their account,” noted Raymundo Roxas, Rizal Microbank president.

Global recognition from digital financial community

RCBC ePiso has become a source of pride for Filipinos as it was recognized in an international conference and workshop about digital fiat currency technology held in Cornell Tech Campus at New York City, USA last July 18 to 20, 2018.

Along with other financial institutions from around the world, RCBC showcased how they developed a comprehensive digital platform that would promote financial inclusion in the country. The bank was acknowledged for its progressive efforts in making day-to-day financial activities more secure and efficient for Filipinos with the ePiso digital currency.

“Digitizing our peso bills and coins allows us to ensure, safer, faster, reliable means for economic activity to thrive in the communities we serve. This is digital inclusion, one barangay at a time,” said Margarita Lopez, head of RCBC Digital Banking Group.

As RCBC celebrates its 58th year, the bank solidifies its role as an industry leader that brings revolutionary financial services and digital products to both businesses and consumers. With ePiso, RCBC is empowering the unbanked market to have access to easy and secure transactions to help improve their lives. It continues to believe in Filipinos, enabling them to become the best that they can be and assisting them towards an inclusive nation.

The account safety and security of every banking consumer will always be the priority of any financial institution. Nowadays, many banks are improving their systems and taking active measures to prevent threats of loss, breach, or fraud to their clients’ bank account.
One of the largest commercial banks in the country, RCBC has long been recognized to be a trusted banking partner of many Filipinos. As it continues to put its customers first, it takes action to educate everyone about how they can help safeguard their accounts.
As a Bank customer, here are some simple practices you can follow to keep the integrity of your account:
Inform your bank about changes in your personal information

Just like how you should change your bank PIN to avoid fraudulent activities, personal details such as contact numbers, email addresses, and home addresses must also be updated as it helps the bank in making sure that information is securely delivered only to you.
Be aware of who you are speaking to

Do not disclose any sensitive information to just anyone. Nowadays, scammers are going as far as posing like a regular employee from your certified bank. They might ask you to give card details in exchange of interesting promos and prizes. Know that RCBC will never ask for your password, PIN or security code on the phone or online.

Regularly review transaction history

Know your finances and always keep yourself up-to-date about the current balance of your account. RCBC offers hassle-free online viewing of your statement of account, or eStatements, when you visit www.rcbconlinebanking.com and enroll your account. You may still opt to have a printed copy delivered to your mail address or picked up at your branch of account subject to corresponding monthly fees.

Keep records of your banking activities

All your transactions are recorded in your monthly Statement of Account. Make sure you regularly review this to ensure that transactions reflected there are actually your own. For transactions done over the bank counter, it helps to secure a machine validated slip of your exchange with the bank before leaving the branch premises.
If you have a passbook, do not forget to bring it with you and have it updated to help manage your finances. You must also take the transaction receipts every time you go to the ATM to keep track of your daily cash withdrawals. For online transactions, make it a habit to check the confirmation emails that you will receive.

Along with these useful tips, RCBC wants to assure its banking clients that they are using advanced security technology and are putting quality systems and processes in place to help defend accounts from online and offline threats by issuing a One-Time-Password (OTP) sent to the client’s mobile number for online transactions.

The bank continues to empower Filipinos with innovative financial products and services that safeguard the trust that consumers have placed upon them.

History has been made with the announcement of Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation (RCBC)’s partnership with the country’s first-ever franchise-model mobile and desktop e-sports league, The Nationals. This is the first time that a local financial institution has officially supported such an event, recognizing electronic gaming community as one of today’s fastest growing e-commerce markets.

Despite being one of the biggest markets for online purchases, today's gamers know all too well the frustration of not being able to purchase in-game upgrades or special items without a credit card. To address this, RCBC introduced the MyWallet Virtual Card – a reloadable Visa prepaid card that gamers can use to buy ePins, DLCs and other upgrades online for their favorite games, even without a credit card. The MyWallet Virtual Card has no monthly maintaining balance and users can be assured of security because they only need to load it with as much cash that they're comfortable with at any given time.

With RCBC supporting The Road to Nationals, every participant will be registered to their own MyWallet Virtual Cards when they sign up for the tournament.

Outside of The Nationals, the MyWallet Virtual Card is available to anyone looking for a safe & convenient payment solution for shopping online, booking flights & even paying bills. Applicants can easily sign up for a MyWallet Virtual Card via the RCBC online banking website for free

Beginning with Road to The Nationals running through until the end of October, viewers will be able to follow their favorite professional Pinoy gamers via broadcast and online coverage on ESPN-5.

Daniel Miranda scores back-to-back podium finish in Sepang to cap off a stellar rookie season in Asia Formula Renault

Eurasia Motorsport driver Daniel Miranda capped off a stellar debut season in Asian Formula Renault (AFR) by scoring two podium finishes from two starts at the Sepang International Circuit (SIC) last September 28-30.

“It wasn't an easy journey for me moving from the Vios Cup into single seaters,” said Miranda. “But every race and every time I was on track, I got quicker and quicker. I'm really happy I ended 2018 with a double podium which made my team and family really happy as well. I would like to thank God for keeping me safe this whole season. Thank you to my family, my sponsor Cebuana Lhuillier, my team and mechanics at Eurasia, and everyone involved for making this possible.”

“I would like to congratulate Daniel for giving glory to the country. It’s a very impressive accomplishment given that he’s a rookie. I expect him to do even better in his next races and Cebuana Lhuillier and I will be here to support him", said long-time Philippine sports patron and Cebuana Lhillier president and CEO, Jean Henri Lhuillier.

Miranda qualified P4 and had a great start to shoot up to P2 on the run to the first corner. Unfortunately, he couldn't hold onto the position and slid back to P3. He spent the next 15 laps to defend his spot and took the chequered flag in 3rd place.

Miranda carried this momentum into Race 2 to once again finish 3rd.

“I'm very proud of his accomplishments this year. We started the year thinking that a top eight finish would be fine, but Daniel surprised us with podiums in Shanghai and Sepang, which are some of the most difficult tracks in the calendar. With a season under his belt, I expect him to contend in every race next year", said driver coach and manager Roland Hermoso.
